Schedule tutoring with John Alper - I am a UC-Berkeley PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering, I have a strong background in math, physics and chemistry. I understand these subjects not just in the abstract academic sense, but in their concrete applications to real-life problems, as demonstrated in my work in the pharmaceutical industry. For my engineering students, I will concentrate on giving you the confidence to make reasonable assumptions in tackling open-ended problems. Through my development as an engineer, I learned from my best teachers that making these assumptions is critical not just for success on problem-sets and exams, but in the lab as well. My goal as your tutor is to guide you through the learning process. I will help you grasp the fundamentals, make broad connections of underlying concepts, understand the practical applications and develop your problem solving skills. Read more about me
Schedule tutoring with Swethaa Ballakrishnen - I am a lawyer (NALSAR'04, Harvard Law School '08) currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology at Stanford University. Before embarking on this PhD, I spent five years as an international finance attorney, a law lecturer at a top Indian law school, a research fellow at Harvard Law and an intern at the Indian Supreme Court. At Stanford now, I study educational inequality, gender and stratification in the South Asian context. In particular, I am interested in researching higher education models in this region and the ways in which societies sort students to reproduce systemic structural and cultural hierarchies. I can tutor students on conceptual understandings of sociological stratification as well as law and society theory and research. For editorial/review services, all students (college aspirants, undergraduates, graduate school aspirants, law school aspirants) are welcome. I can help you with your sociology paper or graduate school admissions essays or even your application for competitive scholarships such as the Inlaks. I know what it's like to compete at the highest levels for these awards and can steer you in the right direction so that you put your best food forward in your application materials. Schedule tutoring with Rick Canedo – I am the founder and owner of Tutor Hero. My passion for business, technology and education led me to create Tutor Hero with the vision of becoming the nation's premier provider of online tutoring. I earned a PhD in Philosophy at UC-Berkeley where I was awarded Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor. I worked mostly with Prof. Hubert Dreyfus on phenomenology, especially Heidegger and Merleau-Ponty. I have a passion for Nietzsche's philosophy as well, and in Philosophy of Science. I worked with Prof. John Searle as a graduate student instructor for his Philosophy of Mind course and would enjoy tutoring students in Philosophy of Mind at an introductory level. My role as owner of Tutor Hero limits the time I have available for tutoring in Philosophy, but it is my first love and I would enjoy working with students who are having trouble writing philosophy papers or who would just like a high-level discussion on some of my favorite thinkers. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have worked as a management consultant (with The Boston Consulting Group) and as a full-time investor. If you are a prospective tutor who would like to join us, go to the Become A Tutor Hero page. Read more about me
Schedule tutoring with Chris Cox - I love math. And I love science – especially physics and the physical sciences. I've been helping students improve their GPAs for more than ten years. I've also instructed physics at the college level – I know what your teachers are looking for, I know what you're trying to learn, and I know many techniques for helping you achieve your goals. Are you just trying to survive a required semester of general physics? Do you need an A in physics to get into medical school? Are you a beginning physicist or engineer struggling with some of new concepts, or just trying to connect all the dots? Are you a more advanced physics major who needs a little guidance with tough assignments or classes? Or are you just learning High school Calculus and want to ace the AP exam? I've either been there personally, or taught people who were. I can be there for you. Read more about me
Schedule tutoring with Lee Easton -As a PhD student at UC-Berkeley's Department of Economics, I work with some of the top economists in the world, including Nobel Prize winner George Akerlof, and distinguished economists such as Delong, Rabin, Romer and Chad Jones (among others). I eat, sleep and drink Economics and can tutor any undergraduate level Economics subject; at the most advanced (MBA or graduate) level, I can also tutor Microeconomics, Behavioral Finance, Statistics and Corporate Finance, among other subjects. Schedule tutoring with Roohollah Ebrahimian - I have a PhD in Mathematics from Yale and am Silver Medalist in the International Mathematics Olympiad. Whether you are struggling to grasp complex mathematical concepts, or just want to learn material that your own teacher could not clarify for you, I would be happy to help. Many times the most ambitious math students are slowed down by their teachers so that their classmates can understand. This is unfortunate and can hurt your preparation for AP Calculus exams or advanced mathematical competitions. I would be happy to provide regular lessons for you (or your son or daughter) for advanced mathematics. Read more about me

Schedule tutoring with Cecilia Martinez - Bring me your poor, your tired, and your grammatically-challenged papers! My goal as a tutor is to question your writing, offer suggestions for revision, and give you the tools to successfully revise your own work. Of course, you may have it all figured out in your head, but it needs to make sense on paper to the average reader. I can be your average reader! Together we will work to ensure that your papers reflect what you really know and what you are really trying to say. I also enjoy helping students with the various personal statements required for medical school, law school, and graduate school. Schedule tutoring with Mike Salamone - I'm slightly obsessed with politics. I'm the guy who screams at the TV while watching C-SPAN the way most guys do when watching football. That's why I decided to get my PhD at UC-Berkeley, which has one of the top three political science departments in the country, to study the American political system full time. While I find all things political fascinating, my own research focuses on the interaction between the federal courts, particularly the Supreme Court, and the larger political world. Particularly, I'm interested in how unelected judges are able to shape the landscape of electoral politics, and why citizens and elected officials are so willing to accept their judgments. I've also taught a number of poli sci classes here at Berkeley, and I genuinely love sharing my knowledge with undergraduates. Whether you're a political junkie like me, you have your eyes on law school, or you're just trying to get through a required class, I'd love to help you get an A on your next paper or exam. Schedule tutoring with Brian Waismeyer - My experience with statistics and psychology is an ongoing tale of research adventure. I've been learning the ropes of psychology research since my first year in undergrad. I've helped with over a dozen studies, written a winning honors thesis, worked with seven different research labs, and found a happy home at UC-Berkeley's PhD program in Psychology, where I study how babies learn. Overall, I've been studying psychology and developing the tools for doing behavioral research for over eight years. I don't, however, just study psychology and statistics: I'm also a fan of inviting others to the party. I have tutored for or assisted with psychology and statistics courses for over six years. I have a lot of fun and I am confident about the excellence of my teaching; UC-Berkeley students have given me near perfect evaluations in every course I have assisted with and every student I tutored reported improvement in both grades and study habits.
